Monoethanolamine (MEA) offers a wide range of applications because it has alcohol and amine characteristics. As an amine, MEA is mildly alkaline and reacts with acids to form salts or soaps. As an alcohol, MEA can be esterfied. MEA is a clear colorless, viscous, hygroscopic liquid with an odor resembling that of ammonia.
